Summary:
FAR Group has a requirement for a skilled Instructor, Rope Rescue Awareness, Operations, and Technician (Proboard Rope Rescue 1 and 2) to provide training as a service at the Maine HCS for the Fire DepartmentDepartment of Veterans Affairs will have no responsibility for the instructor other than providing a classroom where instruction can take place and audio-visual support for the course.
Materials for instruction must be available in a format where the instructor has no need to access the VA IT network.
Instructor will have access to a Smart Board and HDMI plug in for laptop computer, but no internet access to the VA network will be provided.
Instructor must provide own internet access if needed for instruction.
In addition, Instructor will provide all textbooks, course materials, skills testing materials, and course tests.
Finally, Instructor will be responsible for ensuring course is Proboard accredited and provide testing for each student that leads to Proboard accredited certification upon receiving a passing grade.
Instructor will provide Proboard accredited certificates for each student who successfully completes the course and meets the Proboard standards.

- Rope Technical Rescuer at the Awareness Level o Non-Expired CPR w/ AED o Non-Expired First Aid o IFSAC/Pro Board Hazardous Materials Awareness - Rope Technical Rescuer at the Operations Level o IFSAC/Pro Board Rope Technical Rescuer for the Awareness Level Specific Tasks:
Rope Rescue Technician Awareness, Operations, and Technician Instructional Hours:
Not to exceed 40 hours (5 days) Course Objective:
To provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to function as a Rope Rescue Technician.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to effectively size up, operate as a member of a rope rescue team, and manage a rope rescue emergency.
Course Description:
Major topics covered in this course are scene size up, victim identification, hauling operations, mechanical advantages, personal protective equipment selection, patient transfer methods, litter operations, equipment selection and inspection, knots, rope types, anchoring systems, obstacle avoidance, and constructing rope rescue systems under various conditions.
Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, online learning activities and team-focused practical exercises.
Successful Completion:
Students must attend required classroom sessions, complete all required online and classroom activities and homework assignments, demonstrate proficiency in the practical skills evolutions, and obtain a score of 70% or better on the final written and practical examinations.
This course satisfies the professional certification requirements for Rope Rescue Technician Awareness, Operations, and Technician (Rope Rescue 1 and 2).
Association (NFPA) Standard 1006:
Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications (Chapter 7).
Course must cover each required topic in Chapter 7 of NFPA 1006 as required by Proboard accrediting agency.
This will include projects to demonstrate proficiency in these tasks as well as lecture from the instructor.
Candidate must have a standard curriculum that has been approved and accredited by Proboard that demonstrates these tasks are taught and evaluated.
Written test with standards approved by Proboard will be administered as part of the curriculum.
Candidate will have 45 days after the course ends to process all required paperwork, determine any students requiring remedial training, and issue certificates for those students fulfilling all obligations to become certified to the Togus VA Fire Chief at the following address:

Any students who fail the written or skills tests will be provided a method for attempting one retest within 12 months of the course end date.
Note:
Instructor will be required to receive Covid-19 testing at the Maine HCS.
The current method for completing this is a Binax rapid antigen test which takes approximately 15 minutes to receive results.
If a positive test occurs a confirmation PCR test will be conducted to confirm the finding.
